Baseball Myopia

Your humble blogger is a proud lifelong citizen of Red Sox Nation. Since before such a phrase existed, I have pledged allegiance to the flag that has proudly flown over Fenway Park for decades. So it comes as no surprise to me that "Yankee Fan" is burying my beloved Beantown Boys as "Wild Card" finishers in the American League east this year (so predicted by Sports Illustrated and a few others). It also comes as no great shock that some of my fellow Boston fans are burying the Yankees after CC Sabathia's performance on Monday.
Please know and understand, and check the calendar if you're unsure: IT'S THE FIRST WEEK OF THE SEASON! Open your myopic eyes and recognize...it's early, and this is a marathon -- not a sprint!
One bad game does not a bad season make. I give Sabathia his due: my guess is when the story is written, he'll go down as a great pitcher in spite of the off-days, of which the opener in Baltimore was one.
And, one final note: the Red Sox will take a "wild card." On two occasions when they did (2004 and 2007)...well, you know what happened.
See you in September.
